An item in the "small world" category: We recently ran a story about how the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Centel Classic will be played at Killearn Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla., where Marc Brady serves as the golf professional. Marc is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Holland Brady of Tryon. Kangaroo Motorcaddies of Columbus has purchased two spots and will air Kangaroo commercials for a national audience on TBS during its coverage of the Cen tel Classic Sunday, May 19. What we didn't know at the time was that Tryon has yet another connection to the tour nament. Lon Fellenz, the son of Louis and Virginia 'Skip' Fel lenz of Hunting Country Trails, is the executive director of the Centel Classic. N C 28782 Polk County JV Stats The Polk County Junior Var sity Baseball team finished their season with a final record of 8 wins, 7 losses. Season batting averages were: Eric Lookadoo .605, Alan Edwards .477, Jason Kilgore .455, Josh Hoots .415, and Chad Rickman .409. Leading the team in stolen bases was Shannon Randolph, 17 out of 18, Jason Kilgore with 15, and Chad Rickman 14. Eric Lookadoo and Chad Rickman had 20 RBIs each. Eric Lookadoo was lead hitter with 23. Pitcher, Chad Rickman, had 5 wins, 1 loss, 1 save. Eric Lookadoo 2 wins, 2 losses, 1 save. Jason Kilgore 1 win, 1 loss. Alan Edwards 1 save. Chad Rickman had an ERA (earned run average) of 3.08, Alan Edwards 4.52. Coach Jeff Wilson stated that "the team had a successful sea son. We worked hard on funda mentals and displayed a first class attitude." Play Reading Group The Play Reading Group will meet Wednesday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Mural Room of the Tryon Fine Arts Center. The group will be reading, "The Marriage of Bette and Boo," by Christopher Durang. The play was the winner of the coveted Obie Award. It is a coruscat- ingly funny dissection of mar riage and the family in con temporary America. 12 Pages Today 20C Per ( ops TUESDAY, MAY 7,1991 St. Luke's Thrift Shop Plans Fashion Show At Vineyard Nan Parsons, director of the fashion show featuring clothing and accessories from St. Luke's Thrift Shop, displays a gown to Sally Berg, one of the volunteer models for "Clothes Are Won derful... The Second Time Around" at the Vineyard on Friday, May 10. Proceeds from hard goods brought for resale at the Thrift Shop and sale of merchandise at The Boutique make this event a "fun and fund" day in providing contributions for equipment at St. Luke's Hospital and scho larships for local students con tinuing their education in health-related careers. —Community Reporter Andy Williams Benefit Concert International singing star Andy Williams will perform a benefit concert for the Brevard Music Center on Monday eve ning, July 22. Mr. Williams will appear with chorus and orchestra in BMC's Whitting- ton-Pfohl Auditorium, with all proceeds from the concert going to support the educational pro gram at Brevard. Due to the benefit nature of the event, season passes will not be valid. Ticket prices range from $15 to $75, with the high est priced ticket including a buffet dinner, select seating, and also a post-concert recep tion with Andy Williams.
